Stress Relief for Working Men and Women
Working 40+ hours a week does interesting things to a person. If you are not careful, you may start feeling stressed out all the time. The office is not just your home away from home, it’s your life. You might as well bring your refrigerator and pillow to work because you’re there all day anyway. You are so worn out when you come home that the only time you see your kids are to and from daycare. You begin to wonder: Is this all there is to life? Its like you packed so much in that you simply just can’t do it all.
It’s called stress and in our technologically advanced day and age, there is a lot of it! So how do working men and women cope? Here are a few hints on making your life a little less stressed-out and a lot more fulfilling.
1. Keep up with the housework. A messy house can really stress a person out. Are you the kind of person that makes cleaning a once a month ritual? Allow me to introduce you to a new, more enlightened way of life called “keeping up with household responsibilities”. Instead of attacking your house for twelve hours on some Saturday, take about fifteen to twenty minutes after work and tidy things up. What a
difference it makes! First, everything stays clean. Second, you have an extra Saturday to start seeing friends or playing with your kids!
2. Stay Physically Active. You’ve heard it before. Exercise helps a person better cope with stressful situations, feel happier, have more energy, and increases self-esteem. Buy a gym pass, walk during your lunch break, lift weights, Join an aerobics class, try Yoga, train for a marathon, swim with your friends, or go hiking. Make exercising a part of your lifestyle instead of something you keep putting off.
3. Nurture Your Relationships. The most potentially fulfilling part of a person’s life are loving relationships. Spend quality time with the people you love. It doesn’t matter how busy you are. Do whatever it takes. Start an exercise program together, meet for lunch, plan a once-a-week date night, or take a day off. Close relationships need nurturing to thrive. Relationships that are lacking in love bring unwanted sadness and stress into a person’s life. Don’t let your relationships suffer.
